Some condo associations and landlords are using DNA tests to crack down on dog owners who don’t clean up after their pets.

A condo in Jupiter, Fla., and an apartment building in Long Island, N.Y., are among the places seeking to match poop with pet owners. The New York Post dubs the programs “poop-ulation control.”

The rental building in Long Island, the Avalon Bay Community, will charge tenants $90 to sign up for the DNA registry under a pilot program, the Post reports. When groundskeepers spot poop, it will be sent to the lab for a DNA match. Offending pet owners can be fined up to $1,000. Currently, owners have to pay a one-time fee of $650 and a monthly fee of $50.

Residents at the Florida condo building, called the Village of Abacoa, will have to pay $200 to have a DNA swab taken from their dog’s mouth and placed on file with a DNA registry, the Sun Sentinel reports.
