A California attorney is suing the estate of former professional football player O.J. Simpson for more than $1 million in legal fees that he said he was owed before the death of the athlete-turned-actor.

The lawsuit was brought by California attorney Ronald Slates against Malcolm LaVergne, a Las Vegas lawyer and executor of Simpson’s estate. The 56-page suit claims that Slates represented Simpson “in various matters” until his 2024 death, and most legal fees were unpaid, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

According to the suit, a creditor’s claim was submitted to Simpson’s estate in October and rejected by LaVergne, who valued the estate between $400,000 to $500,000.

In November, the estate approved that $58 million be given to Fred Goldman, the father of Ron Goldman, who was killed in 1994 along with Simpson’s ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson.
