A law firm seeking to add offices in New York state is taking an aggressive approach to recruiting.

Albany-based Tully Rinckey sent letters to 9,100 lawyers in the Rochester and Buffalo areas seeking applicants for new offices in those cities, the New York Law Journal reports.

Founding partner Mathew Tully told the New York Law Journal he eventually hopes to staff each new office with 10 lawyers who will handle matters including litigation, family law, trusts and estates, immigration and criminal defense. “We anticipate the entire month of October to be dealing with applicant screening,” Tully said.

Tully Rinckey used a similar method to recruit lawyers for a Syracuse office that opened in August. The firm received more than 500 applications and hired six lawyers, five of whom applied as a result of the letters.

Tully said the letter campaign also helps build relationships for future referrals.
