The Western New England University School of Law has demonstrated compliance with an ABA accreditation standard that requires a bar passage rate of at least 75% within two years, according to notice posted Monday.

It was one of two law schools that was found to be out of compliance in December with the standard by the council of the ABA’s Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar.

For 2021, compliance with Standard 316 was based on bar passage rates for 2018 graduates. According to ABA data, Western New England’s ultimate bar passage rate for 2021 was 64.79%, compared to 75.26% for 2020, which was based on 2017 graduates.

Sudha Setty, dean of Western New England University’s law school, told the ABA Journal in an email that the law school’s bar passage rate for 2020 graduates is currently 77.1%.

“As I mentioned in December, WNE Law has been working incredibly hard to support students and graduates towards success on the bar exam and beyond. Our recent and substantial increases in bar passage are a reflection of some of the progress that we’ve made in that regard,” Setty wrote.
