Nick Reiner, who was charged Tuesday with murdering his parents—director and actor Rob Reiner and photographer and film producer Michele Singer Reiner—is now represented by Alan Jackson, a Los Angeles criminal defense lawyer.
According to a Dec. 16 press release from the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office, the defendant was charged with two counts of murder with a special circumstance allegation of multiple murders. According to the press release, Nick Reiner also faces a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, which was a knife.
Rob Reiner, who played Michael Stivic in 1970s sitcom All in the Family, went on to direct films including Stand By Me, A Few Good Men and When Harry Met Sally. His wife, Michele Singer Reiner, was a photographer, and they were found dead in their Brentwood, California, home Sunday afternoon. Nick Reiner was taken into custody Sunday evening.
His Tuesday appearance was postponed because medical reasons prevented him from being transported from jail to the courthouse, according to the Associated Press. He is being held without bail.
In June, Jackson won an acquittal for Karen Read, who was accused of murdering her boyfriend, according to NPR. That followed a July 2024 mistrial, where Jackson also represented Read. Additionally, he was featured in a docuseries about her case.
Jackson also represented actor Kevin Spacey in his Massachusetts sexual assault case. Prosecutors dropped the charges in 2019, according to NPR.
Before going into private practice, Jackson was an assistant head deputy in the Major Crimes Division of the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office. While there, he prosecuted record producer and song writer Phil Spector, who was found guilty of second-degree murder in 2009.
