Lawyer Pal Helped Feds Prosecute Chicago Pol (and Attorney) Ed Vrydolyak
Ed Vrdolyak, an attorney and former longtime Chicago alderman, thought he was talking to a friend when he discussed a dubious 2004 real estate deal with fellow attorney Stuart Levine in 2006.
But in fac,t newly unsealed records in a federal court case against Vrdolyak show that he was talking to federal agents, too, as Levine recorded their conversations for law enforcement authorities, reports the Chicago Tribune.
“Vrdolyak, nicknamed ‘Fast Eddie,’ didn’t realize that Levine, already charged for other wrongdoing and under financial pressure, recorded their conversations for four months in 2006 while cooperating with the feds,” the Tribune article recounts.
As discussed in an earlier ABAJournal.com post, Vrdolyak recently pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit mail fraud in a federal prosecution related to a kickback allegedly paid to put a real estate deal on a fast track.
