Ticketed by Chicago police on Thursday for driving on a revoked license, 23-year-old Eric Smith had his car towed from the scene.

Unfortunately for Smith, the same two Chicago police officers spotted him driving the same 1996 Chevy Impala later the same day and pulled him over a second time, prosecutors said.

This time, he was charged with felony theft and criminal trespass, because he allegedly had walked into an impound lot at a police station in the city’s South Deering neighborhood and stolen his own car without paying required fees to obtain its release, DNA Info reports.

Smith was also cited for driving an uninsured vehicle, running a red light and driving the wrong way on a one-way street.

At last report, he was being held in lieu of $10,000 bond.
