Judge Pays Annual Registration Fee with Rubber Check--Twice--Then Sends Money Order

A New Jersey jurist paid her annual bar registration dues with a rubber check—twice—before submitting a money order to cover the balance.

But Trenton Municipal Judge Renee LaMarre Sumners is now a lawyer in good standing, after local newspaper coverage Thursday apparently spurred her to ante up again, according to a New Jersey Law Journal article reprinted in New York Lawyer (reg. req.).

It says the judge didn’t respond to a phone message seeking comment.
