Police in Pakistan today blocked a planned march to the home of the country’s ousted chief justice.

Marchers found the route to the home of former chief justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry was blocked by concrete blocks, steel and barbed wire, the Associated Press reports. Chaudhry is under house arrest.

Meanwhile, lawyers across Pakistan boycotted courts and held rallies to protest President Pervez Musharraf’s suspension of the constitution and his dismissal of several judges. Witnesses said several lawyers and police officers were injured in clashes in the city of Multan. About 700 lawyers and activists marched in the city of Lahore.

Fifty judges have been removed from office, including 11 supreme court judges, ABAJournal.com noted in an earlier post.
