Prominent Rhode Island lawyer who died now accused of defrauding clients of millions of dollars

Within days of his death, clients and friends of a prominent Rhode Island attorney have alleged that money that they loaned him or that he was holding as part of legal actions is missing or unavailable.
GoLocalProv reports that after lawyer Ronald Dunbar Jr. died in July at age 57, the news organization “was contacted by multiple individuals” who alleged that Dunbar defrauded them.
According to financial records secured by GoLocalProv, Dunbar faced hundreds of thousands in tax liens in addition to the allegations made by clients who claim that they are out millions of dollars. A series of lawsuits has been filed in Rhode Island and Massachusetts seeking to recover money from Dunbar’s law firm or his estate.
Dunbar appeared to be a highly successful attorney with million-dollar homes in Newport, Rhode Island, and Lincoln, Rhode Island, and offices in New York and Boston. He was the son of a retired Newport police captain, and his wife is a beauty and wedding consultant.
