A juror deliberating in the federal case against Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens reportedly lied when she told the judge that her father died and she needed to be excused.

Instead of a funeral, the juror—Marian Hinnant, 52—wanted to attend the 2008 Breeders’ Cup World Championships, the Blog of Legal Times reports. Stevens was found guilty by a jury that included Hinnant’s replacement on Oct. 27.

U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan, who had postponed deliberation on Oct. 24 to accommodate Hinnant, was not amused. He ordered her to appear today in court.

The BLT reports that Hinnant apologized to the court and Judge Sullivan didn’t seem inclined to punish her.
