Updated: Despite a public hungry for nitty-gritty details, a well-known Florida criminal defense lawyer is one who believes that Tiger Woods is best off staying quiet about the car crash he was in last week near his home.

Roy Black said on The Early Show that “By talking to the police, by giving a press conference, by going to his golf tournament, this could only end up in disaster. What is he going to tell the police, that he was having a fight with his wife and have his wife arrested? That would be a disaster to do anything like that.”

Black says that Woods, who isn’t required under Florida law to provide any other statements about the incident, is best to keep quiet until “it blows over,” according to The Early Show’s website.

After Friday’s accident, Woods canceled his appearance at his own golf tournament, the Chevron World Challenge. The canceled appearance only seemed to fuel speculation into the accident, after which his wife Elin says used a golf club to break the windows of the vehicle to pull him out.

Black concluded that, “If he keeps the same strategy, he doesn’t talk to the police, keeps quiet, stays at home, she doesn’t say anything, I think sooner or later, it will blow over, no matter how much pressure is put on this.”

Another defense lawyer, Andrew Moses, told CBS News that if Woods doesn’t say more, the Florida highway patrol investigation should come to an end.

And indeed, that’s what happened on Tuesday. The highway patrol held a news conference to announce that Woods was cited for careless driving, fined $164 and adding four points to his Florida license, according to numerous news reports including the Washington Post.

“With the issuance of this citation, the Florida Highway Patrol has concluded the investigation,” FHP troop commander Cindy Williams said without taking any questions. “The FHP is not pursing criminal charges in this matter, nor is there any testimony or any other evidence to support any other charges of any kind, other than the charge of careless driving.”
