The 18-month-old son of an Arkansas juvenile court judge was left unattended and later found dead in a hot vehicle last week, authorities say.

Police in Hot Springs say the cause of Thomas Naramore’s death apparently was excessive heat, according to the state crime lab, but no official cause has yet been determined and an investigation is ongoing. Both Circuit Judge Wade Naramore, who handles juvenile cases in Garland County, and his wife cooperated and were questioned in what a statement released on the family’s behalf called a “tragic accident.”
