Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld has acquired 22 partners from overseas offices of Bingham McCutchen.

Bingham’s London office, which is losing 18 partners, is most hard hit by the mass departure. Two other departing partners are from Bingham’s Frankfurt office and two are from its Hong Kong office. The Am Law Daily has the story, while Akin Gump has a press release.

Among those jumping to Akin Gump is James Roome, who was Bingham’s London managing partner and co-chair of Bingham’s global financial restructuring group. Two other London-based leaders of Bingham’s financial restructuring group are also joining Akin Gump. Previous coverage suggested Roome had planned to leave if Bingham pursued merger talks with Morgan, Lewis & Bockius.

Akin Gump says in the press release that it “expects to welcome a number of additional attorneys from Bingham soon in London, Hong Kong and Frankfurt.”

The move gives Akin Gump its first office in Germany, bolsters its restructuring practice, and pushes it into the ranks of the top 20 London offices of international firms by gross revenue.
