Fla. Law Firm Traffic Case Guarantees Rile Clients

Clients in Collier County reportedly are complaining about several Florida law firms that have given money-back guarantees in traffic cases and then fought losing court battles on behalf of their clients.

Although the guarantees apparently may work better on the state’s East Coast, where the law firms are based, they aren’t in accord with the tougher approach of Collier County judges, writes the Naples Daily News. The newspaper says some clients are complaining that law firms they expected to fight their cases successfully aren’t doing so as promised.

John Golden, a lawyer in Davie, Fla., who offers such guarantees, says Darren Taylor, a client who complained about his representation, was told at the outset he didn’t qualify for a money-back guarantee that he wouldn’t have to go to traffic school or pay points, because of his bad driving record. (Taylor contends that isn’t so, and was in court with another lawyer recently seeking to overturn the license suspension Golden got for him.)

“Mr. Taylor is playing Monday-morning quarterback,” says Golden. “He’s crying sour grapes. We are an ethical, straightforward, honest business. We’re always looking out for the client’s best interest.”

Taylor’s new lawyer says Golden would have better-served Taylor by advising him to go to traffic school rather than pay an attorney to fight his case in court.
