A jury has found a former Milwaukee city attorney guilty of felony misconduct for using his office for personal benefit.
Tearman Spencer, 69, who lost his reelection bid in April, was charged with misconduct in October 2024. According to a criminal complaint, the district attorney’s office found that Spencer used discretionary power as the city attorney to prevent the Milwaukee Department of Neighborhood Services from performing inspections and assessments on a property where he stored cars.
The jury’s verdict, handed down Friday, also found Spencer not guilty of resisting or obstructing an officer, a misdemeanor, according to Fox6 News Milwaukee.

“I’m not happy with the verdict,” Spencer told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel outside the courtroom. “In my opinion, it didn’t come out the way it should have come out.”
His sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 11.
