Former TV judge Joe Brown can’t practice law in Tennessee, at least for now, because his license has been placed on disability inactive status.

A statement by production company Celebritunity attributed Brown’s health problems partly to complications from diabetes, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reports.

“Judge Brown is suffering from what hopefully will prove to be a temporary disability as a result of complications following from Type II Diabetes and the effects of prescribed medication for the condition combined with hypertension and stress,” the statement said.

The Tennessee Supreme Court order transferring Brown’s license to disability status says the court considered documentation of Brown’s disability supplied by his medical care provider.

The change in status means a pending ethics petition will be suspended. The complaint stems from an incident in Shelby County in which Brown raised his voice and challenged the authority of a magistrate. His five-day contempt sentence was upheld by the state supreme court.
