Some associates at K&L Gates are reportedly out of a job, despite a continued increase in revenue at the law firm.

Unnamed sources told Law.com that cuts happened in Chicago; Boston; Washington, D.C.; and Pittsburgh.

K&L Gates didn’t comment directly on the cuts. But the firm told Law.com that it manages head count every year based on “personnel performance, client demand and related reviews.”

“This year was no exception,” the firm said.

K&L Gates added that it is “performing quite well, with year-to-date revenue up strongly over last year, which was itself a record revenue year for the firm.”

Other firms have cited performance evaluations while downsizing, the article says. Among them are Ropes & Gray, Goodwin Procter and Kirkland & Ellis.

Other firms that have acknowledged layoffs of lawyers and staff members this year include Reed Smith, Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe and Goodwin Procter, according to the article.
