Law firm's suit claims its lawyer stole client information for firm he operated on the side
A law firm in Houston claims in a lawsuit that one of its former lawyers stole confidential client information and one of its clients for a law firm he operated on the side.
The suit claims lawyer Erik Osterrieder operated his own law firm while working full-time at intellectual property firm Matthews, Lawson, McCutcheon & Joseph, Texas Lawyer (sub. req.) reports.
The suit alleges that Osterrieder “was sending, transferring and disclosing the highly confidential and trade secret information” to his own law firm, breaching an agreement he had with Matthews Lawson.
The suit claims Osterrieder used Matthews Lawson information to identify clients, to contact Matthews Lawson clients about work related to their intellectual property, and to unfairly compete with the law firm.
The suit seeks forfeiture of all fee income Osterrieder earned at his own private firm while working at Matthews Lawson.
