A Minneapolis lawyer has been suspended and ordered to take anger management therapy following a fistfight with a woman who was facing eviction from her apartment.
Attorney Christopher Kalla of Minneapolis pleaded guilty to fifth-degree assault following an altercation with a tenant during an apartment inspection, and he was suspended by the Minnesota Supreme Court, according to the Minnesota Lawyer.
Kalla, who was representing a landlord in the eviction proceeding, went to the apartment without the tenant or her lawyer. When the tenant showed up, she tried to push him out. Kalla reacted by swinging his right elbow into her chest and kicked her leg with enough force to leave a bruise, according to the Minnesota Lawyer.
Kalla was suspended for 60 days and will be placed on probation for two years upon reinstatement, according to an Aug. 19 court order and an Aug. 20 press release.
He also must explain what he has “learned from the therapy/treatment and how he has internalized those lessons in a manner that will enable him, upon reinstatement, to comply with the Minnesota Rules of Professional Conduct.”
