A Los Angeles County deputy public defender has taken over representing Nick Reiner after his high-profile attorney recently stepped down from the murder case.

Lawyer Kimberly Greene has worked in her role in the Los Angeles County public defender’s office for about 19 years. She attended the University of Miami and obtained her JD from the Loyola Law School at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

Reiner is the son of Hollywood director and actor Rob Reiner and photographer and film producer Michele Singer Reiner. He faces two counts of first-degree murder for the stabbings of his parents.

Alan Jackson, a Los Angeles criminal defense lawyer, withdrew from Reiner’s legal defense team Jan. 7.

According to coverage from USA Today, Greene noted, “It’s not uncommon for private counsel to turn over cases to us. Nothing about that would complicate the situation.”
