Prominent conservative attorney and Trump ally John Eastman has joined the team of lawyers representing Amy Wax, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School fighting a high-profile discrimination case—five months after California stripped him of his law license as he worked to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Reuters has the story.

On Monday, in a statement to Reuters, Eastman said his California disbarment was “so obviously political” that he does not expect any issues with the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals at Philadelphia, where Wax’s pending case is likely to be heard in November. The appeals court keeps its own bar of approved lawyers.

A social welfare law and a policy scholar, Wax, who is white, sued the university in January 2025, alleging that the university violated her tenure rights in October 2024 when it gave her a one-year suspension from teaching after an investigation into public statements that she made about minority groups.

Her case was dismissed in August 2025, after a federal judge in Philadelphia called her racial bias ‌claims “implausible.”

Eastman, a former professor and a former dean at the Chapman University Fowler School of Law in California, represented President Donald Trump at the U.S. Supreme Court in a lawsuit aiming to invalidate votes in four states where Trump had claimed widespread 2020 voter fraud.
