Thirty-eight lawyers and 12 other professionals at Husch Blackwell will join its new virtual office, dubbed The Link.

The professionals come from eight Husch Blackwell offices, according to a press release. Law.com, Law360 and the Kansas City Business Journal have coverage.

The 20 partners and 18 associates who are joining The Link are members of Husch Blackwell’s product liability, toxic tort and commercial litigation practices, according to Law360. Also joining the virtual office are 11 paralegals and a legal operations director.

Among those lawyers is The Link’s office managing partner J.Y. Miller, who told Law360 he is confident that the number of people working at The Link “will be growing very rapidly.” He also expects The Link to boost recruiting and retention.

Working at home during the COVID-19 pandemic showed that lawyers can be more connected to each other and to clients, if they are using the right technology, Miller told Law.com and the Kansas City Business Journal. The work-at-home experience also led to greater productivity and efficiency, he said.

The Link members may work at home, on site with a client, or in “a hoteling arrangement” in one of Husch Blackwell’s 20 brick and mortar offices. Miller said team members will most often work at home.

Nonpartners will be paid based on geographic locations, as brick-and-mortar lawyers are paid.
