U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was released Friday from a Washington, D.C., hospital where he had been treated for an infection during the past week.

A statement provided to the news media Friday did not give further details, report Politico, the Associated Press, CNN and USA Today.

Thomas, 73, was admitted to Sibley Memorial Hospital on March 18 for treatment of flu-like symptoms. He did not participate in oral arguments Monday through Wednesday of last week, but he plans to participate in cases that he missed on the basis of briefs, transcripts and argument audio.

The high court’s initial March 20 statement on Thomas’ hospitalization had said he expected to be released in a day or two. A spokesperson said at that time Thomas did not have COVID-19.

Like the other justices, Thomas has received a coronavirus vaccine and a booster.
