A Texas attorney was released on a $10,000 bond following his arrest Saturday on a charge that he allegedly made a terroristic threat against a 16-year-old family member, the San Antonio Express-News reports.
The San Antonio Police Department received a complaint Aug. 21 from the young woman alleging that lawyer Martin Phipps directed threats toward her that “put her in fear for her life,” according to the paper, which cited police records and a source familiar with the matter.
Phipps is known in the San Antonio legal and political communities for his work in helping Bexar County, Texas, land a $14.5 million settlement in 2018 in its lawsuit against opioid manufacturers.
The 57-year-old attorney is set to be arraigned Oct. 6 and has been barred from possessing a firearm while out on bond, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
