Kim Kardashian is not a lawyer but plays one on TV.

“Well, I’m not a lawyer yet,” the reality TV star wrote in an Instagram story on Saturday. “I’m still all in until I pass the bar. No shortcuts, no giving up—just more studying and even more determination.”

Kardashian, who appears in Hulu’s legal drama called All’s Fair, was among the 7,362 candidates who completed the July 2025 administration of the California bar, according to a press release from the State Bar of California.

The state’s test is considered one of the most difficult in the country, and only 54.8% passed, according to the release. First-time applicants had a 69.7% pass rate for July with repeat test takers at 12.4%, reflecting a trend that repeat test takers have much lower pass rates, it says.

Kardashian, who did not attend law school and does not have an undergraduate degree, is following the state’s alternative pathway that allows candidates to take the bar exam by learning the law through apprenticeship and study. California is one of the few states that allow lawyers to become lawyers by “reading the law.”

She passed the difficult “baby bar” exam on her fourth try in December 2021. The first-year test is required for students in apprenticeship programs and law schools that are not accredited by the ABA. In May, she announced on Instagram that she passed the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination, a requirement for taking the bar.

Typically, the alternative program takes four years, as required under the Law Office Study Program, but Kardashian took six, according to her Instagram account posts.

Kardashian studied with a criminal justice reform group, but it wasn’t her first exposure to the law.

She told Vogue in 2019 that she used to snoop through evidence books on the weekends used by her lawyer father, the late Robert Kardashian. He is best known for successfully defending football player, actor and media personality O.J. Simpson on murder charges in the 1990s.

In August, TMZ reported that Kardashian might have had a private area to take the test. Typically, the California bar exam is held in state bar-approved, large convention centers in major cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco.

“Due to confidentiality requirements, the State Bar of California cannot confirm whether a specific individual has taken the bar exam, nor can it provide any details about specific bar exam applicants,” a state bar spokesman told the ABA Journal.
