A St. Louis County lawyer has been sentenced to a week in jail for directing the F-word toward a judge during a hearing in a medical malpractice case.

Judge John Borbonus of the 21st Judicial Circuit Court in Missouri found lawyer Eugene H. Fahrenkrog Jr. guilty of direct criminal contempt and sentenced him to jail for seven days “or until further order of the court.”

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch had the story, which was noted by the New York Post and Law & Crime.

Borbonus’ July 14 order and judgment said during a hearing that happened the same day, Fahrenkrog “did state directly to Judge John N. Borbonus, ‘F- - - you!’”

Borbonus did not explain what prompted the outburst, but the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the hearing happened to resolve a dispute over the production of evidence.

Fahrenkrog is a lawyer in good standing who was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 1971. He is of counsel with the Sumner Law Group.

Fahrenkrog was not in the office when the ABA Journal called for comment Monday morning.
