A recent graduate of the Loyola University Chicago School of Law was determined to finish the bar exam, despite going into labor during the remote test.

Brianna Hill told Above the Law that she realized that her water had broken when she stood up after taking the Multistate Performance Test. She took her break, cleaned up, called her midwife and husband, and returned to her computer to take the Multistate Essay Examination.

She started having contractions soon after starting the essays.

“Going into labor really put the bar exam into perspective and made my nerves go away really quickly,” Hill said in her Above the Law interview.

Hill finished her essays and went to the hospital around 5:30 p.m. Her baby was born shortly after 10 p.m. Hill completed her bar exam the next day at the hospital in an empty room.

“I took the rest of the test in there and was even able to nurse the baby in between sessions,” Hill said. “Obviously, I really hope I passed, but I’m mostly just proud that I pushed through and finished.”
