Judge faces possible fine for more than 900 political donations to left-leaning causes

The Florida Supreme Court is calling for a fine against an Orlando, Florida, judge who admitted making more than 900 donations to left-leaning political causes, according to Law.com.
The Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission found last month that Ninth Judicial Circuit Court of Florida Judge Diana M. Tennis donated nearly $30,000 to at least 17 political action committees and candidates, all of which are either left-leaning or explicitly aligned with the Democratic Party, according to the report.
Florida judicial canons bar judges from making political contributions, among other restrictions, but Tennis told the commission that she thought that the rule only appliced to donations to candidates for state office, not federal ones, Law.com reported.
Tennis and the commission had stipulated to a public reprimand, but the state supreme court voted 6-1 that she should also be fined. It’s unclear what fine she could face if Tennis consents to the suggested sanction, according to Law.com.
An attorney for Tennis did not return Law.com’s requests for comment.
