Suspended judge gets jail time for money laundering campaign funds

A suspended judge in Fort Bend County, Texas, was sentenced Tuesday to 180 days in jail, 200 hours of community service and five years of probation after being found guilty of money laundering in March.

Bond was denied for suspended Fort Bend County Judge K.P. George in Texas, and he was taken into custody. His lawyers filed an appeal.
During his jury trial, prosecutors said George failed to disclose the true contents of his campaign fund after the 2018 election, allegedly spending more than $45,000 of the difference on personal expenses, including a down payment on a new house. His lawyers countered that George loaned his own money to the campaign and later paid himself back, a common and legal move, and that the case against him was politically motivated.
Daniel Wong was appointed as the acting county judge after George was suspended from office in April. A general election for the post will happen in November.
