Floyd Mayweather Jr. brings fighting spirit to legal arena

Floyd Mayweather Jr., known for his 50-0 boxing career, his pioneering self-promotion lifestyle business and his share of legal troubles, is promising a “championship mentality” for a nationwide legal network that he said he’s built under his branding of the Money Team.
With a commercial launch last week on social media platforms, the Money Team Law Firm describes itself as a lawyer network in all 50 states that “isn’t afraid to take on powerful corporations and insurance companies.”
“Car crash, personal injury victims, if you want to get paid, you need lawyers who fight,” said Mayweather in a video promoting the law firm on social media.
“50-0. Never lost. Never will,” according to the promotional materials.
Mayweather faces two felony charges in Las Vegas over allegations that he wrote a $200,000 check with insufficient funds to buy a luxury watch. He’s also battling civil lawsuits, including one over allegedly breaking a contract to face boxers Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao.
In 2011, Mayweather was sentenced to 90 days in jail after pleading guilty to a domestic violence charge and no contest to two harassment charges.
The Money Team Law Firm stated on its website that legal representation for too long has been “reserved for the wealthy and well-connected,” and that the firm seeks to “shatter” barriers that have left millions of Americans without lawyers.
It’s unclear from the marketing whether Mayweather is an owner of the firm or simply promoting it under his branding.
The Money Team Law Firm is headquartered and incorporated in Arizona, a state that began allowing nonlawyers to own and have economic interests in firms since 2021. However, the Money Team Law Firm does not list Mayweather as an owner, nor did the firm file as an alternate business structure, according to the Arizona Supreme Court’s Administrative Office of the Courts.
According to the Arizona Corporation Commission website, the principal for the Money Team Law Firm is McDonald Worley, a plaintiff firm. The firm’s website said it has offices in Texas, Florida, Nevada, New York and Washington, D.C.
McDonald Worley did not immediately return a request for comment.
Mayweather won a bronze medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics for boxing before turning professional. In his career, he’s captured at least 15 major world titles across different weight classes.
Earlier in his career, he was known as “Pretty Boy” Floyd, but he rebranded himself in 2007 to Floyd “Money” Mayweather and eventually launched the Money Team, a lifestyle marketing tool and corporate umbrella.
